IRL: Notes on the Entries

Want more info on the episodes? Here's a quick link to the Lurker's episode guide.

The information contained in these web pages come from the internet/pay service notes of J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5, B5 comics from DC, novels from Dell, trading cards from Fleer, and the actual episodes of Babylon 5. Entries have been written to be as canon as possible. Those entries maked below with a [M] have been embellished by the author of this website. Entries maked below with a [G] contain an original illustration based upon a written description.

Entry: Abbai [G]
Featured Appearances: "Deathwalker"

Entry: Antarean [M]
Featured Naming: page 16 of John Vornholt's B5 novel, Voices. (Antarean Sector- "The Gathering")
Notes: Must be the ones who make Antarean Flarn (?). The pictured alien is from the pilot and its true species name is unknown.
Entry: Arnassian [M] [G]
Appearances: First mentioned in the original script for the pilot, but was edited out. A second mention can be found on the pilot's edition of Universe Today.

Entry: Belladon [M] [G]
Appearance: B5 novel #4, Clark's Law
Entry: Berserkers
Featured Appearance: "A Day in the Strife"

Entry: Brakiri
Appearances: "The Fall of Night," "Convictions," "Interludes and Examinations"

Entry: Bremmaer
Appearance: B5 novel #4, Clark's Law
Entry: Carnellian
Mentioned: "The Gathering"
Notes: The image and most of the data comes from the briefly seen alien in medlab in the episode "Interludes and Examinations." I have no idea if that alien is a Carnellian or not, but I placed it here anyway.

Entry: Cascor
Notes: The Cascor were previously confused with the Llort due to a mis-named picture file uploaded to the Lurker's Guide.

Entry: Cauralline
Appearance: B5 novel #4, Clark's Law
Entry: Cotswa [M]
Appearance: B5 novel #5, The Touch of Your Shadow, the Whisper of Your Name

Entry: Deneth [M] [G]
Appearance: B5 novel #4, Clark's Law
Entry: Dilgar
Featured Appearance: "Deathwalker"

Entry: Drazi
Featured Appearance: "The Geometry of Shadows"

Entry: Froon [M]
Appearance: B5 novel #4, Clark's Law
Entry: Gaim
Appearance: First appeared in a few blurry frames in "And Now For a Word" (Thanks to Kurt L. Reisler for discovering this!); seen clearly twice in "Confessions and Lamentations," "A Day in the Strife," "Exogenesis," thereafter became a regular background alien...
Featured Appearance: "Interludes and Examinations"
Notes: The name is probably an homage to Neil Gaiman, creator of the Sandman comic (which, BTW, had a 75 issue story arc). The Gaim's encounter suit looks much like Dream's helmet, which was made from an unknown beast's skull. Perhaps it was also a ploy to get the famed author to pen an episode for the series (I hope!).

Entry: Goblyns
Featured Appearances: Babylon 5 comic, Issues #6 and #7
Notes: No official name is known.

Entry: Golian
Appearance: "Born to the Purple"
Entry: Grome

Entry: Onteen
Featured Appearance: "Believers"

Entry: pak'ma'ra
Appearances: "Legacies," "Hunter/Prey"
Notes: Looks like a mini-cthulhu. Mainly a background alien. Thanks to Robert Berman for pointing out that "pyramidal" cells make a lot more sense than "barameter."

Entry: Pre'lek [M]
Appearance: "The Gathering"
Notes: No official name is known. The name is a amalgum of Twi'lek (from Star Wars) and Predator - since the tentacles and facial features of those aliens make up this one.
Entry: Red Monks
Featured Appearance: "There all the Honor Lies"

Entry: Shadows
Featured Appearance: "In the Shadow of Z'Ha'Dum"
Other Appearances: "Deathwalker" (probably what the first Vorlon volley was aiming for), "Signs and Portents" (can't see 'em, but they're there), "Chrysalis" (partially seen), "Interludes and Examinations"

Featured Appearances: "Babylon Squared," "War Without End Parts One and Two"
Mention: "The Long Twilight Struggle"
Entry: Zener
Featured Appearances: "Ship of Tears"
Notes: No official name is known. The given name comes from the cards used to test for ESP. The symbols of cross, square, circle, star and waves were supposed to be viewed by the tester. The subject is to try and "see" the symbol in the tester's mind.

Entry: Morden
Notes "I'm fairly sure he was a technician aboard the Icarus. If you obsessively freeze frame through the scene in "In the Shadow of Z'ha'dum" where his file scrolls down the screen one can make out "echnical." The DP on that scene did a great job making sure we don't see a damn thing in that file. However, his action in "Interludes and Examinations" leads me to believe that he was planted there by a government agency (as an offering/inside man??). Nobody calls him Dr. Morden either." - myself, Aug. 1996.

Of course, I can always be wrong. When novel #7 came out it was revealed that Mr. Morden is really Dr. Morden. However, in my defense I offer this quote from Jeanne Cavelos, author of The Shadow Within: "JMS mentioned that he'd thought of Morden as a low-level tech on the Icarus, not a scientist. But he never asked me to change it, which I appreciated." So my original article was correct at the time it was written. :)

Entry: n'grath [M]
Featured Appearances: "Soul Hunter," "Born to the Purple," "Parliament of Dreams," "Survivors," B5 novel #4, Clark's Law

Notes: According to the VEX Internet Poll: 89% liked n'grath, while 8% did not. 94.5% of the respondents would like to see n'grath again. When asked how they would like to see him: 27% would like to see him as is, 41% would like to see him revamped (altered suit/CGI), and 25% would like to see his head as the next "fixer's" paperweight.

Entry: Zathras

Entry:Diseases and Maladies
Notes: Drafa ("Confessions and Lamentations"), Lake's Syndrome ("Quality of Mercy"), Netter's Syndrome ("Convictions")
Entry: Galactic Map
Notes: The Milky Way is an incredibly large area. The two political border maps following this page are an attempt to outline where and how large the borders of the respective empires lay. These are very approximate, and IMHO, a bit too large considering most governments number their colonies in the tens. Any help in impoving these areas would be much appreciated.
